An Old Legend
The 2003 BMW E46 M3 is an iconic vehicle that fully embodies the analog driving experience. For me its age makes it affordable, but also gives me something I can work on and learn from. These cars are known to require a lot of maintenance, but many will vouch that they are worth it.
A small but important fix; a recall was placed on the trunk latch in the early 2000s due to latch tolerance issues. A specially designed plate when placed behind the latch provided the clearance needed to correct this issue. Twelve dollars well spent!
The old plastic on the trunk handle cracked, mostly due to the latch originally not functioning correctly. I reinforces the mounting holes with steel cylinders to ensure that this issue would not progress.
The car I purchased had no catalytic converters. Vehicle owners sometimes remove them to improve performance or make the vehicle louder. In order to reduce emissions I replaced the "catless headers" with original headers that had new catalytic converters. This was an expensive job, but it was necessary.
